FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

DERIVATION SYSTEMS JOINS XILINX AS A CHARTER MEMBER OF THE
COMMON LICENSE CONSORTIUM

Carlsbad, California, September 12, 2001 – Derivation Systems, Inc., the leading provider of Formal IP cores, Xilinx and members of the Xilinx AllianceCORE™ third-party IP provider program have joined together to form the Common License Consortium.

All consortium members have agreed to offer customers a single set of common IP licensing terms for acquiring FPGA-based IP cores called the SignOnce IP License. The result is a first for the IP industry - a single set of licensing terms, giving customers access to IP cores from multiple vendors for use in Xilinx programmable logic.

According to Dr. Bose, founder and CEO of Derivation Systems, Inc., "A common license agreement benefits the customers and streamlines the delivery of IP cores.  The SignOnce IP License model is a revolutionary concept for the IP core industry.  It provides a uniform licensing model while maintaining flexibility to meet specific customer requirements.”

The first of Derivation Systems’ cores to be offered under the Common License model will be LavaCORE™ – A Java™ Processor Core that executes Java bytecode directly in hardware.  “With SignOnce IP, customers can license LavaCORE and integrate a variety of peripherals from other consortium members to build a custom SOC design using a uniform set of licensing terms”, said M. Esen Tuna, Vice President of Engineering.

"We are thrilled that our partner Derivation Systems is joining with other visionary IP providers to offer a solution to the well recognized IP licensing challenge," said Mark Bowlby, AllianceCORE program manager at Xilinx. "Their LavaCore technology is a welcome addition to the wide range of products that are now available to customers under the terms of the SignOnce IP License."
